December 2024 Wrap Up + January TBR List
Happy New Year! I hope this year was all that you wanted it to be and more. I also send my most sincerest wishes that 2025 will be even better than 2024. This month wasn't as great as last month, however, I'm still very happy with what I was able to achieve. I mentioned this in a previous review but I've recently started working. I come home pretty tired with no motivation to read and any free time I have, I normally spend doom scrolling. Such is life, I suppose. But, I am determined to be more disciplined in making time for my hobbies.
Here are some of my reading goals for 2025:
- I want to read a total of 50 books
- 5 Non-Fiction/History books
- 5 Classics
- 5 Literary Fiction books
- More Science Fiction and Horror novels
- Read more diverse authors (i.e. Native American, African American, Mexican (American)
- There are also several books/series that I want to get to: The Liveship Traders Trilogy, The Tawny Man Trilogy, Sun Eater Series, and The Count of Monte Cristo
- I also want to be more consistent in the time I spend reading so, I am going to attempt to read everyday
I started of the month with The Dallergut Dream Department Store by Miye Lee. This was a really cute story, but other than that, I thought it was pretty average. 3/5
The next book I read was Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. I really wanted to like this book, but it just felt pretty short for me. 3/5
I then read an absolute banger. The Lotus Empire by Tasha Suri was an excellent read. I am absolutely in love with Suri's writing and will 100% be picking up her other works. 5/5
After this, I read The Third Wife of Faraday House by B. R. Myers. I was really grooving with the gothic environment of this book and will definitely be looking out for more books of this nature. 3/5
The last book I read this month was The Enchanted Sonata by Heather Dixon Wallwork. I thought the writing and prose were excellent, though there were some pretty big things that caused the rating to go down. 3/5
I've decided that my TBR for next month is going to be the three books I didn't get around to reading this month.
- I want to pick up is Belladonna by Adalyn Grace. I've heard some pretty good things about this book and I'm really looking forward to reading it.
- The next book on my list is Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber. It's time to go back to my roots and pick up a YA Fantasy Romance novel and this book seems promising.
- I then want to read The Deal by Elle Kennedy. Like I said last time, I have horrible FOMO when it comes to book-to-tv/film-adaptations and I refuse to not get to watch the tv series of this book without having read it before.
- The last book I'm hoping to get to is The Striker by Ana Huang. What can I say, I've been sucked in to the Huang-Hype.
I'm noticing that January is going to be a pretty romance-heavy month. I've got an even selection of young adult romantasy and contemporary adult romance.
Anyway, as per usual I've talked too much. Here's to a great reading month and an even greater 2025.
Until Next Time,
A Lazy Reader
